Step 1: Find what you need

Step 2: Add your gift(s) to the paper bag

Step 3: Connect the ribbon to the bag

Step 4: Tie the ribbon into a tie

Step 5: Add the finishing touches

Helpful Tips:

  1. If you have a larger gift for Dad you can also wrap the present in a paper grocery bag using a longer piece of ribbon.
  2. Choose your ribbon carefully and make a tie in Dad’s favourite colour!
  3. Once Dad opens his gift you can flatten the bag, re-tie the tie, and then display it in a picture frame.

What can I add into these Father’s Day gift bags?

We thought these DIY gift bags were the perfect way to gift Dad a collection of his favourite snacks. Add some of the following to the bag:

  • Hershey’s Kisses and Hugs
  • His favourite chocolate (peanut butter cups, anyone?)
  • Mixed nuts

You can also use this gift bag to hold other small gifts, such as:

Do I have to add a ribbon tie to this DIY Father’s Day gift bag?

If you don’t feel comfortable tying a tie you can also draw a tie shape on paper and cut it out. Then glue or tape it to the folded bag. You could also make a tie from felt, fabric, or a craft foam sheet.

How else can I decorate this Father’s Day paper bag craft?

Instead of drawing the buttons on the bag you can use button stickers or glue real buttons or beads in place. For the pocket, you can cut one out of paper and glue it on. You can also decorate your bag with stickers or markers, creating a patterned dress shirt!
