Tips for decorating a patriotic table with striped linens, flags and two

Table Foundation

Every well decorated table needs a foundation, whether it’s a tablecloth,
runner or simply a piece of butcher paper! A foundation layer adds interest
and helps to ground the rest of your food, tableware and decorations.

Affordable Pure Linen

I layered the napkins with my wood chargers and dishes, keeping it super
simple. The top napkins are held together with
oversized rusty looking star ornaments. I believe I found these at Hobby Lobby after Christmas one year.
I’m using my white scallop melamine dishes (
see similar here) but you could use paper plates for convenience.

Vintage centerpiece ideas

#1 DIY Campfire marshmallows tin

I couldn’t decide which centerpiece I liked better, so I tried both, which I’m
sharing here, and you can decide. The
vintage inspired DIY Campfire marshmallows tin
is a project I shared earlier this week. It is surprisingly easy to make, and
you probably already have everything you need! I added a couple stems of
faux red geraniums, bending the stems to help them fit, and then tucked in one of my
coffee stained flags. The coffee stain adds a primitive touch to the brand new flags and keeps
them from looking too pristine!

I layered the tin on a blue and white dinner plate, to continue the
theme of layering a table to add interest, depth and ground the
centerpiece
. You could use any tin with red, blue and white to house your flowers, even
plant real geraniums in a large tin can like I did with
these herbs.

#2 Milk glass and flags

My second centerpiece idea was simply adding milk glass vases to the center of
the table and tucking in more of the stained flags. I added a few brass
candlestick holders and
these battery operated wax tapers. I love these candlesticks, they look remarkably realistic!

Depending on the size of your table, and the number of milk glass vases you
own, you could really make a statement! Or add them to a sideboard or table to
add a decorative touch near the food. I couldn’t miss the opportunity to
decorate my adjacent coffee bar with patriotic touches. Let’s take a closer
look.

Patriotic decorated coffee bar

A thrifted picnic basket with a red gingham fabric liner adds so much color
and charm. A store bought cake was spiffed up with some fresh strawberries,
and displayed on my
thrifted wood pedestal and cloche. I recently shared how I removed the stain from this thrifted piece using
oven cleaner, so check that out if you’re interested.

You may spot more of those vintage and rusty looking marshmallow tins because I
didn’t stop at one, I made 4! That’s how easy they are. And the marshmallows
were so easy to make. I can’t believe how realistic they look!

The primitive fabric stars are a brand new project that I’ll be sharing soon,
so keep an eye out! Better yet, be sure you’re
subscribed so you don’t miss any of my new ideas!
