Painted Rock Turkeys for Thanksgiving

Painted Turkey Rocks for Thanksgiving - Happy Hooligans
Ok!  One more quick and easy little turkey craft for you today.  Make one of these painted rock turkeys to serve as a paperweight, or make a whole bunch, and use them as place settings at your Thanksgiving dinner table!

Thanksgiving is coming up this weekend here in Canada so the hooligans and I have been busy making lots of different Thanksgiving crafts over the past couple of weeks.

See more of our turkey crafts here.

This one was totally unplanned, and the idea came to me the other day when two of the older girls were painting some rocks in the backyard.

You may already know how much we love crafting and playing with stones.  We always have a stash of these round, smooth rocks on hand here because we can use the in so many ways. Remember the gorgeous stone paperweights we made last year?  The girls were making more of those on this particular day.

I, on the other hand, had Thanksgiving on the brain, and so I decided to turn my stone into what else…  a turkey.

To make your painted rock turkeys, you’ll need:

  • smooth, clean rocks
  • paintbrush
  • brown paint
  • glue
  • googly eyes
  • yellow beak (craft foam or card stock)
  • red tissue paper

While the girls were painting their rocks in vibrant colours, I painted mine a reddish brown.

Here’s a little peek at what the girls were painting:

My painted rock dried quickly in the sun, and then I added some googly eyes and a beak that I’d cut out of a small piece of craft foam.

Some crumpled red tissue paper made a great wattle and comb.

And I finished by gluing a few craft feathers to the back of the stone.

Gobble, gobble!

Isn’t he cute?

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
