Creating Juneteenth bracelet craft with pipe cleaners and pony beads is a fun and meaningful craft that kids will love.

This simple project is perfect for little hands and allows for endless creativity with different colors and patterns. Not only is it a great way to keep the kids busy, but it also provides a wonderful opportunity to teach them about the significance of Juneteenth.

What is Juneteenth

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It’s a day of celebration, reflection, and education, recognizing the end of slavery in the United States.

Celebrated across the country, Juneteenth has grown into a time for communities to come together to honor African American culture and history through parades, festivals, and various educational events.

How to Celebrate Juneteenth

Crafting these Juneteenth bracelets is not only a creative activity but also a way to engage kids in the holiday’s history. Using red, black, and green beads, which symbolize the struggle and resilience of African Americans, kids can make bracelets that carry a meaningful message.

It’s a simple yet powerful way to incorporate the holiday’s themes into a hands-on project, making the celebration of Juneteenth both fun and educational.

Juneteenth Colors

The colors red, black, and green are significant when celebrating Juneteenth as they are also the colors of the Pan-African flag.

Red symbolizes the bloodshed and sacrifices made by African Americans in the struggle for freedom and equality.

Black represents the African American community’s strength, resilience, and unity.

Green stands for the fertile land of Africa and the hope and prosperity that lie ahead.

Incorporating these colors into Juneteenth crafts, like our pipe cleaner and pony bead bracelets, not only adds vibrancy but also serves as a powerful reminder of the history and enduring spirit of African Americans.

Supplies Needed

  • Pipe cleaners (any color will do, we used red, black and green)
  • Pony beads (red, black and green)

How to Make Juneteenth Bracelets

  1. Grab your pony beads. If you already have your beads separated great! But if you are like us and have all your beads mixed up make the first part of this activity sorting through them to find the red, black and green beads. It totally ok to use bead of different shades
  1. Grab your pipe cleaners. You can use any color, we use red, black and green to make three bracelets. Start creating a pattern with the beads in the order of red, black and green. You can add one red, two black and three green. Or any pattern they choose.
  1. Once you have finished your three bracelets. Twist them together on both ends. Then wrap them around your child’s wrist and twist the ends of the pipe cleaners together. You can cut off any excess pipe cleaner. Be sure to tuck the ends in a way that they won’t stick your child or catch on to clothing.

Where you Juneteenth bracelets proudly! Happy Juneteenth!

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.
