How adorable are these DIY hot air balloons? They are fun to make and turn out so beautifully!
You will need crafting paper, popsicle sticks, a cardboard piece, pom poms, stickers, and a few other materials to make this cute craft. This is an excellent craft for children and parents to make together.
I have used paper hearts to create a cute and sweet design. You are free to use whatever you would like.
Dots, stars, animal shapes, dinosaurs, and favorite characters would work great. You could even use stickers instead of paper if you prefer.
This is a fun and exciting project. It allows kids to explore colors and designs and get super creative.
Little children love to personalize their crafts. Your kids will enjoy being able to decide what decorative touches they would like to use to make their hot air balloon their own.
This project is also an excellent way to help little ones practice their fine motor skills. Between cutting, gluing, drawing, and painting, your kids will get plenty of opportunities to work on their skills throughout this project.
I am sure that your little ones will enjoy following the simple instructions below to make their own hot air balloon. I bet that you will also love making one alongside them!

How to Make a DIY Hot Air Balloon
Step 1. First, gather all your materials. Now, we need to make the balloon.
To do this, trace a balloon shape using your marker onto the paper sheet. When you are satisfied with the way your balloon looks, grab your scissors and cut your balloon out.
Step 2. It is time to start decorating your balloon! This is the fun part, so let yourself play, enjoy, and get super creative.
We will start with the pom poms. Glue the pom poms onto your balloon.
You can glue them in whatever pattern you would like. I find that even spacing looks good, so I try to avoid having too many clusters of pom poms in any area.
Step 3. Let’s keep decorating. Glue your paper hearts (or stickers or whatever decorative paper/stickers you are using) to your balloon.
Step 4. This part is optional, but I think it looks great! Using a white pen, I have drawn little flowers and small dots to add a little bit more to the design.
You can add whatever patterns or drawings you would like. You can also feel free to skip this step.
Your hot air balloon will still look beautiful with the other decorations!
Step 5. Now, let’s put together our balloon basket. Tear off the top layer of your cardboard.
Step 6. Using glue, attach your two popsicle sticks to the back of your cardboard piece.
Step 7. Now, add some glue to the tops of your sticks. Carefully place your balloons on top of the sticks.
Step 8. Your cute hot air balloon is complete! How adorable!
How Long Do These Hot Air Balloons Take to Make?
This is a very quick project to make, which means it is great for little kids! The decorating process probably takes the longest, but it is also the most fun step!
Everything will come together fast, especially once you have decorated your hot air balloon. It will probably take only 15-20 minutes in total.
If you are helping a small child to make this hot air balloon, it might take a little bit longer. Some kids will need assistance with drawing the balloon and cutting it out.
There is a lot of gluing and placing stickers involved in this craft. This can also take extra time when tiny hands are involved.
Even if you factor in the extra time it can take to do this project with a very young child, it is still a quick and easy craft. It will probably take no more than 30 minutes even if you are working with a little kid to create this.
