What type and size of beads are best for making a flower bracelet?
We really love the delicate look of these flower bracelets made with small glass seed beads. The beads we used are size 10/0 and measure a bit larger than 2mm. You can also use 8/0 seed beads, which are just over 3mm in size.
We recommend buying Czech or Japanese glass seed beads, as they’re the best quality beads with the most consistent sizing. But you can easily make this a kids craft by buying a glass bead set at the dollar store and using the smallest size.
How many beads do I need to make a flower bracelet?
This will depend both on the size of the beads and the size of your wrist. If you have the same size beads as us, you’ll need to make about 24 flowers for a bracelet that fits a 7 inch wrist comfortably.
Each flower requires 6 beads of the main colour (colour A) and 1 bead of the center colour (colour B). Therefore you’ll need at least 144 beads of colour A and 24 beads of colour B. Plan on having extras in case your beads are inconsistent in size, so you can choose the best ones.
What type of cord or string is best for making a flower bracelet?
You need to use cord that’s thin enough to go through your beads twice, so choose a string that’s 0.5mm or less. We recommend a 0.2mm invisible beading filament.
This type of nylon thread is easy to use, because it’s a bit more sturdy and doesn’t unravel at the end. It’s also very strong, which creates a long lasting bracelet. But regular sewing thread will also work. This is what we used in the tutorial above.
Or, use an elastic thread to make your bracelet! You can tie both cord ends together in a surgeon’s knot to make a stretchy bracelet. This will fit over your wrist without the need for a clasp.
These DIY bracelets with detailed and colourful flowers are so fun to make! Whether you’re a seasoned jewelry maker or a beading beginner looking for a fun activity, you’ll love making this charming daisy chain bracelet! The process is so relaxing and meditative, and once you’ve made 1 flower you can easily make the rest of the bracelet.
