CD Snowman Ornaments for Toddlers

CD Snowman Ornaments
Don’t throw out your old CDs and DVDs! Turn them into these adorable CD Snowman ornaments with your kids.  It’s a just another one in our collection of quick and easy snowman crafts for kids.

We love using our old CDs and DVDs for crafting here in my daycare. The other day we made these gorgeous, glittered CD ornaments, and today, we’re making a snowman ornament for the Christmas tree.

This morning, as I was rooting around in the craft cupboard, planning our daycare crafts for the day, I spotted the stack of old cd’s we keep on hand for crafting.

Earlier this year, we made Easter bunnies, Easter Chicks and Thanksgiving Turkeys out of CD’s, and it occurred to me that we could probably make some fine snowmen with them too.

I asked the kids what they thought of the idea, and they were all for it, so I rounded up some supplies, and we got busy.

The kids loved this making these snowmen. They’re really easy so toddlers and preschoolers can handle it, but my big kids loved it too.

Aren’t they sweet?

Turning your CD into a snowman:

Start by painting your cds with white acrylic craft paint.

When your paint has dried (I always speed that process up with the help of a hair dryer), brush on some white glitter glue.  This added a pretty sparkle to our discs.

How to make a 3-D carrot nose:

For your carrot nose, cut a full-size sheet of orange tissue paper in half.  Fold this half sheet of tissue paper in half twice (once length wise, and once width-wise, just as you would to fold a face cloth.

Grab and pinch the middle of that piece, and twist.  Continue to twist, pinching the end of the “carrot”, until you’re happy with it.

Have your child push that carrot-nose through the hole from the back of the CD.  Trim the tissue paper to about a 1/2 inch at the back of the ornament.

Bring your snowman “to life”, using the buttons, beans and craft foam pieces.

Squeeze a hanging thread through the mose hole, and tie with a knot.
