Kids can make this brushed leaf silhouette art with leaves from your yard, along with some paint, and a dollar store canvas. It’s a great fall art project for kids, and a wonderful way to combine nature and art in one easy but creative activity.
We’ve made many gorgeous fall leaf crafts over the years, and I’m quite excited to add this one to our collection! The 7-12 year olds in my home daycare recently made this brushed leaf silhouette art using leaves they gathered in our yard.
We love to incorporate natural items into our crafts and art projects. It’s a wonderful way for kids to connect with the nature and to examine and experiment with interesting materials. Collecting these items by means of a backyard treasure hunt or a nature walk is always a fun way to extend a craft or art activity too.
We’ve done several silhouette art projects this past year, and the hooligans really enjoyed them, so I had a feeling this one would go over well with the kids. It’s perfect for the fall leaf theme we have going on in my daycare this month.
Don’t worry if it’s not fall when you read this post, or if you don’t have colourful fall leaves. The colour of the leaves isn’t important. We used green leaves, fresh from the tree, and let our paint colours give the art a fall feel.
The kids were thrilled with how their leaf silhouettes turned, and because we used a dollar store canvas for this project, they now have a lasting piece of art to display on a shelf or a bedroom wall.
